An hour's drive from our cottages, through beautiful, lush greenery, brings you to the Sinharaja Rainforest, the country's last viable area of primary tropical rainforest. Over 60 per cent of the trees here are endemic, with many considered rare. The forest is home to a rich variety of wildlife, especially birds, as well as over half of Sri Lanka's local species of mammals, butterflies, numerous insects, reptiles, and rare amphibians. Covering an area of 8,864 hectares, the forest spans an altitude range of 300 to 1,170 meters. This day trip will take you to the rainforest on a guided tour with experienced locals.
