Located about 30 minutes from the property, Kande Viharaya, or the Mountain Temple, is a significant place of worship perched atop a hill and is among the most sacred sites in this part of Sri Lanka. Founded in the early 18th century, the temple is formally recognized as an archaeological site by the Sri Lankan government. It also houses the Kshethrarama Pirivena, a monastic college established in 1904 to educate monks, which has since become a major center for Buddhist education in the country.
